9. External Employee Education

It is the policy of Erwine Home Health and Hospice to foster the educational growth of its employees. In meeting this objective, Erwine Home Health and Hospice will give consideration to permitting employees to attend Erwine Home Health and Hospice programs.

Some employees may need to attend training programs, seminars, conferences, lectures, meetings, or other outside activities for the benefit of Erwine Home Health and Hospice or the individual employees. Attendance at such activities, whether required by Erwine Home Health and Hospice or requested by individual employees, requires the written approval of the Administrator. To obtain approval, any employee wishing to attend an activity must submit a written request detailing all relevant information, including date, hours, location, cost, expenses, and the nature, purpose, and justification for attendance. Attendance at any such event is subject to the following policies on reimbursement and compensation.

For attendance at events required or authorized by Erwine Home Health and Hospice, customary and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed upon submission of proper receipts. Acceptable expenses generally include registration fees, materials, meals, transportation, and parking. Reimbursement policies regarding these expenses should be discussed with the Administrator in advance.

Employees will not be reimbursed for voluntary attendance, outside of normal working hours, at formal or informal educational sessions, even if such sessions generally may lead to improved job performance. While Erwine Home Health and Hospice generally encourages all employees to improve their knowledge, job skills, and promotional qualifications, such activities do not qualify for reimbursement or compensation under this policy unless prior written approval is obtained as described previously.
