F. ON THE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
9. Dress Code and Other Personal Standards
Because each employee in the eyes of the public is a representative of Erwine Home Health and Hospice, each employee must report to work properly groomed and wearing the designated uniform. Employees are expected to dress neatly and in a manner consistent with the nature of the work performed. Employees who report to work inappropriately dressed may be asked to return home for acceptable attire. If asked to return home for acceptable attire, an employee will do so on his or her own time..
Field Staff
- Personnel are required to wear official name tags and designated identification while on duty.
- Personnel must wear as follows:
- o White, gray, or maroon slacks, white, gray, or maroon shirt or white lab coat
- o Blue jeans or shorts are not allowed at any time.
- Personnel may wear white, clean, comfortable working shoes with closed toes.
- Hair must be neatly groomed. It must be secured so that it does not fall into the face.
Note: Hair falling about the face or otherwise dangling could present an infection control problem, e.g., hair falling into wounds or sterile trays.
- Sideburns must be neat and well-trimmed. Moustaches and beards may be worn if neatly trimmed.
- Nails must be an appropriate length for safe clinical practice, clean and well-manicured. No chipped polish.
- Jewelry must be simple, not excessive, large or dangling. Note: Dangling and/or large jewelry presents a safety hazard for personnel and patient/client. Large rings also present infection control problems: adequate hand washing cannot be achieved; and the ring provides a warm, moist environment for bacterial growth.
- No visible body piercing is allowed.
- Cologne should not be worn.
- Personnel are not to smell of cigarette smoke when entering a patient/clients home.
- Personnel will use standardized nursing bag and clinical record files.
